What can I expect from a hypnotherapy session?
Before you come to see me, I gather information from you about your reasons for wanting hypnotherapy as well as necessary contact information and details about your health and lifestyle. Obtaining this kind of information prior to you coming to see me means that I can tailor the initial consultation to your needs and frees up time during our first meeting so that we can discuss your presenting issue more thoroughly. Once you have booked in for an initial consultation, you will receive a confirmation email along with a pre-assessment form for your completion prior to your appointment.
Before commencing hypnotherapy you will have an initial consultation in which we will discuss how your presenting issue is effecting your life, establishing what changes you would like to make, and how you would like hypnotherapy to support you in achieving them. Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy will be explained in detail to you in addition to your role in the process. You will get to experience hypnosis for yourself as I teach you a simple yet effective method for you to go in to hypnosis in addition to discovering how powerful your imagination can be, both skills which you can then utilise for yourself in between sessions for your own benefit. Additionally I will explain more about your issue, highlighting how your feelings, thoughts and behaviours contribute to what you are experiencing, and how you can gain control of them to help you move forward. Any questions you might have about your issue and hypnotherapy can be discussed too.
The initial consultation is an important session. It gives you the opportunity to meet me, determine how hypnotherapy can help you and whether it is the right approach for you. It gives me all the necessary information that I require in order to allow me to create a treatment plan which is tailored specific to your needs so that you can benefit fully from our sessions together and make the amazing changes you wish to make.
In subsequent sessions we will use hypnotherapy to focus your mind positively on the issues you would like to deal with, equipping you with the skills to help yourself improve. During the first part of each session we'll talk about the progress you have made and I'll be encouraging you to express yourself positively, focusing on solutions rather than dwelling on problems. We will discuss what you would like to get from the session, setting goals where appropriate, learning further ways to relax if required, how to get your thoughts under control and use your imagination positively. During the hypnosis you will be sat in a chair and I will guide you through a very enjoyable process using imagery, metaphors and suggestions leaving you feeling positive, confident and motivated, helping you to bring about change in your life.
The day after each session, you will receive an email from me with further reading and details of what we went through during the session so that you can use it to guide you through the process for yourself and so that you have access to the tools and techniques we went through for reference after our sessions together have finished.
Many people believe that Hypnotherapy is something that is "done" to them, that they explain their problems to their hypnotherapist who then simply hypnotises their problems away, as if by magic. But this is not the case. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process and it is important to understand that change happens because you want it to and because you are prepared to take the necessary steps to allow it to happen.
You will receive a FREE 30-minute guided relaxation / self-hypnosis audio track that you can listen to in between hypnotherapy sessions which will familiarise you with hypnosis and will help your progress. In addition to listening to the audio track, you will be required to practice the tools and techniques that I teach you to ensure you get the most from our sessions together and so that you can support yourself in the future.
Hypnotherapy Sessions in Bristol
Usually sessions are held weekly and the number you require will depend on the nature of your situation. I do not state how many sessions you must have although I would recommend that you commit to 4 sessions as this gives a good grounding and allows us the time to cover a wide variety of techniques which you can use to help with your specific issue. Generally I see clients for 4-6 sessions but everyone is different and has different goals for therapy. You will be surprised at how quickly Hypnotherapy can help you to get your life back on track so the aim is to get you to where you want to be in the shortest time possible.
