About CPD training with Sarah Mortimer
All my CPD training sessions are designed for qualified hypnotherapists and advanced trainees who want to develop greater clinical confidence, clarity, and flexibility in their work.
While foundational hypnotherapy training often focuses on techniques and protocols, real clinical practice requires something additional - the ability to think, adapt, and respond in complex, emotionally nuanced, and sometimes uncertain therapeutic situations. My CPD approach focuses on developing clinical thinking skills in a structured, applied way.
All CPD hypnotherapy training with me is designed to support the development of thoughtful, reflective, and clinically grounded practice. Each training is:
🔸Evidence-based: Training is grounded in established psychological theory and research, drawing on relevant models of emotion, cognition, learning, and therapeutic change. The aim is to support understanding that is clinically meaningful, not purely academic.
🔸Theoretically informed: Core concepts are integrated from psychological and therapeutic frameworks to support clear formulation and clinical reasoning. This helps practitioners understand not just what to do, but why it works and when it is appropriate.
🔸Experiential: Learning is not limited to discussion or observation. Participants are invited to experience processes directly through guided exercises, demonstrations, and reflective practice. This supports deeper learning through lived experience rather than passive understanding.
🔸Practical and applied: All training is designed with direct clinical application in mind. Techniques, frameworks, and concepts are intended for use in real client work, not kept as abstract knowledge. Participants are encouraged to apply learning between sessions within their own practice.
🔸Reflective and integrative: Reflection is a core part of the learning process. Practitioners are supported to notice how they respond in real clinical situations, how their thinking develops over time, and how their approach evolves through practice.
A structured, applied learning process
All CPD hypnotherapy training is delivered live online in weekly sessions over a number of weeks (depending on the course). This structure allows learning to develop over time, rather than being delivered as a one-off workshop.
Between sessions, participants are encouraged to:
🔸Apply concepts within their clinical practice
🔸Observe what changes in real sessions
🔸Reflect on client responses and therapeutic process
🔸Bring experiences back into the group for discussion and integration
This creates a cycle of learning that is iterative, applied, and grounded in real clinical work.
Who this is for
My CPD training is designed for:
🔸Qualified hypnotherapists
🔸Student hypnotherapists in advanced stages of training
🔸Practitioners using hypnosis within their clinical work
It is particularly relevant for practitioners who want to strengthen confidence in real-session decision-making, move beyond technique-led practice and develop a more integrated, responsive clinical approach.
The aim of this CPD training
This work is designed to support the development of confident, reflective, and clinically responsive hypnotherapy practice. It is not about adding more techniques (although there will be some). It is about strengthening your ability to think clearly, respond flexibly, and work effectively within the complexity of real therapeutic relationships.

Why Train with Me?
I take an evidence-based, integrative approach to hypnotherapy, and I teach the way I practise.
🔸Grounded in practice - I've run a busy hypnotherapy clinic in Bristol for over 15 years and still see a wide range of clients. The approaches I teach are ones I use, refine, and rely on in real sessions.
🔸Broad clinical training - My background spans Cognitive Behavioural, Ericksonian, and Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy, plus Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). That range informs how I teach - drawing on whatever framework best fits the clinical problem.
🔸Teaching experience - I've presented at the UK Hypnosis Convention, delivered training at the Anglo European College of Therapeutic Hypnosis, and run an 8-week online Compassionate Mind Training course. I design courses to be practical and experiential, not just informative.
🔸Commitment to ongoing learning - I completed a BSc in Psychology with the Open University and am currently studying for an MSc in Applied Clinical Hypnotherapy at the University of Bath. Beyond formal qualifications, I regularly attend CPD training in hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, and related fields. I'm a firm believer that good teaching comes from staying curious. I want my courses to reflect current research and evolving practice, not just established convention.
🔸Experience supporting other therapists - Over the years, I've supervised, mentored, and tutored students, newly qualified practitioners, and experienced hypnotherapists. I understand the questions that come up at each stage - and the difference between knowing a technique and feeling confident using it.
