Initial Consultation for Hypnotherapy

Upon booking, you will receive a confirmation email along with a comprehensive assessment questionnaire to complete before your appointment. This is an important part of the process and not simply administrative paperwork. Taking time to reflect on and complete the questionnaire carefully helps you begin clarifying what you truly want to change and what you want to achieve. Many clients find that this alone brings useful insights and a clearer sense of direction before we even meet. Your responses also allow me to prepare for your session in a focused and tailored way, so that our time together can be used more effectively for deeper exploration rather than basic information gathering.

The initial consultation is a 1.5-hour session designed to build a clear and detailed understanding of the challenges you’re experiencing. We will go through your questionnaire together in depth, exploring your answers, clarifying key themes, and expanding on areas where more detail is helpful.

We will look closely at how these issues affect your day-to-day life and begin to identify what may be maintaining them. From this, we will develop a clearer picture of what needs to shift for meaningful change to occur.

We will also define your goals for hypnotherapy and establish clear, measurable indicators of progress, so you can recognise change as it happens. Where relevant, we will explore potential obstacles and begin shaping strategies to support steady and sustainable improvement.

Drawing on psychology and neuroscience, I will offer relevant insights into your situation to help you better understand your experiences. This often helps reduce confusion and self-blame, and creates a clearer foundation for change.

You will also be introduced to hypnosis and hypnotherapy in a practical and experiential way. This includes guided imagination exercises and a brief introductory hypnosis experience, where you will learn how to enter and exit hypnosis safely and comfortably. You will also be shown a simple self-hypnosis process that can be developed over time to support your progress between sessions.

This initial consultation provides a strong foundation for your hypnotherapy journey. Many clients find it valuable in its own right, as it brings clarity, structure, and a sense of direction. It also allows me to develop a tailored approach based on your specific needs.

Ongoing Hypnotherapy Sessions

Each hypnotherapy session is tailored to your unique needs, so the exact approach will depend on what you are seeking hypnotherapy for. We may explore relaxation techniques, thought processes, emotional regulation, developing a compassionate mindset, or strategies to help you face fears and build confidence. To complement the hypnotherapy, I integrate elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), ensuring a well-rounded and supportive approach to change.

In each session, we’ll begin by reviewing your progress and setting goals for our time together. During hypnosis, you will sit comfortably as I guide you through an immersive process using imagery, metaphors, and tailored suggestions designed to help you build confidence, motivation, and emotional well-being. Each session is designed to empower you, giving you the tools to create lasting change.

The day after each session, you will receive an email with further reading and a summary of what we covered. This ensures you can revisit the tools and techniques anytime, reinforcing your progress beyond our sessions together.

Many people believe that hypnotherapy is something that is "done" to them, as if their problems will simply be hypnotised away. However, hypnotherapy is a collaborative process. Change happens because you are committed to it and willing to take the necessary steps. Practicing the techniques you learn will help you get the most from our sessions and support you in the future.

Hypnotherapy Sessions in Bristol and Online

Sessions typically take place every other week, with the number of sessions depending on individual needs. While I do not impose a set number of sessions, I recommend committing to at least four to build a strong foundation. Most clients see me for four to six sessions, but the amount of sessions needed varies depending on personal goals. You may be surprised at how quickly hypnotherapy can help you move forward, and my aim is to help you achieve results as efficiently as possible.
